Marilyn was an American actress, model and a sex symbol. She was born in 1926 under the name of Norma Jeane Mortenson.

Her career as a model led to a contract with Twentieth Century-Fox for a film in 1946. Although her first roles were nothing major, she managed to draw attention towards her. Soon, she would star in several different movies as well as photographs as a pin-up model.

In 1949 she posed for a nude photo shoot that was supposed to be for a calendar. However, one of those photos was used in the first issue of Playboy, December 1953. This made Marilyn the first Playmate of the Month, not to mention that it turned the new Playboy Magazine into a big success.

After Marilyn’s death in 1962, everyone wanted to pay her respects in the best way possible. One of the many to do so was Elton John, who wrote a song in her name, “Candle in the Wind”.
